I Believe
I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.

I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.

I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living.

I believe that thrift is essential to well ordered living and that economy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whether in government, business or personal affairs.

I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring social order.

I believe in the sacredness of a promise, that a man’s word should be as good as his bond; that character — not wealth or power or position — is of supreme worth.

I believe that the rendering of useful service is the common duty of mankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the dross of selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free.

I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual’s highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will.

I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph over might.

And Cali I read your blog, and all I can say about those dude is that following their blueprint to success may not be the best idea for some. In that, the products created by those people, currently may be raising the Black Aids rate and continuing the subjugation of our people via white control media. BET creator sold BET to a completely white owned company. Hair Care Products are just identifying a trend a working on that.
The people I named not because they are white and have money but they completely pioneered their industries. This is what I ask of all you guys, is to identify an industry and begin to attach yourself to it. I say study dudes that did it because there will be no difference in execution.

your absolutely right, eveybody has to choose their own path to success that will be feasable for them, not everybody can ascend thru the ranks of success by adopting ruthless practices similar to what John D. Rockefeller did during his active period in the business industry. i listed examples of the black entrepreneurs in my blog because they were also pioneers in their respective fields of business.thru their noteworthy success, they also created a significant change within the african american community that allowed us the opportunity to possibly make as much money as Ford, Rockefeller, and Gates. while the opportunity for those white men to become stupendously rich were always prevalent, we as african americans had overcome racial injustices, prejudism and over 400 years of impeding mental subjugation thru slavery which also striped us of our culture and our human dignity. so their success is commendable and astounding. u stated in your comment;

"the products created by those people, currently may be raising the Black Aids rate and continuing the subjugation of our people via white control media"

and you also stated;

"Hair Care Products are just identifying a trend a working on that"

who r these people ur referring to ?! what type of trend does hair care products induce ?! please clarify that and we can touch base on that later. in conclusion, i do agree with following the footsteps of those who are greatly successful to lead yourself to success, but to a certain degree. as far as i know, nobody wants to hide in the shadows of another persons success. i believe some people want acknowledgement, and notoriety for their upcomming success. you can only follow another persons footsteps for so long until u begin to lose your identity and begin form the same image of the person your following. i believe you can use somebody as an inspiration, study their footsteps, and their movements, but retain a sense of self identity that will distinguish you from the person whom ur studying.

chuuch......

Tabernacle,

I disagree, I believe everyone can, given today's economic climate. No one turns down money. At one point, there was racial subjugation; however, in today's economic climate, racial subjugation is not at prevalent in society. There are plenty of black examples to follow, however, for business you have to be first.

Hair care products, is an entrepreneurial example. However, it is a complete separate example from the point I was trying to make. BET is good example for become a minority partner (minority as in partial owner, not being black) in a company. Rockefeller, Carnegie, Ford set historical examples of controlling an industry; and they set good models for what can be done by anyone - given they adapt ethical similarity in their personal and business life.

When I say make comments such as, "the products created by those people, currently may be raising the Black Aids rate and continuing the subjugation of our people via white control media"; I am simply taking about the fingerprint left by the partial founder of BET. He created something, not for black advancement, but for his own, which enables the white controlled media - Viacom - to inject certain thoughts and actions into the 'black' community, using television. His blueprint on society is not advancing the black community. In fact, agruments could be made that the very opposite is occuring. I 'Killed My TV' for that very fact. Had I had a television, I would have not been as successful as I am today.

Don, you are arguing for self-determination, yet you are also talking about how the media "inject[s] certain thoughts and actions into the 'black' community, using television." How can there be self-determination when a black man or a black woman is constantly being controlled via the "covert" hegemonic structures of indoctrination that you argue exist in American society.

Luis,

Thanks for checking up on the blog. Self-determination exists in simply gaining control of one's consciousness. Determining to allow, block, or destroy certain images that may have an effect over the actions of a person. Now, how does one do this when faced with the images created to keep people subjugated or indoctrinated to this corporate run, capitalist society? Simple, steer your attention elsewhere. Pick up a book on how to do so.

The argument could be made that people, do not know any better. However, if one feels inclined to wake people up. They should wear a double sided sign on Time Square and preach for people to turn off their HDTV s; or create a massive propaganda campaigns and wheat paste them all over the 'black' ghettos. Then create black empowerment meetings teaching the community about self-determination.

Unfortunately, my aim is to become part of the upper strata of this capitalist social structure whom tend to mold the rest of society for technological advancement and profit. Therefore, I can endorse such actions.

Don,

The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house. However, I understand that I can never dissuade you from your affinity for capitalist ideals, alas. Nevertheless, I believe that you are merely recycling the arguments that the capitalist with whom you mingle put forth in order to undermine or rather sidestep the issue that
self-determination goes beyond picking a book and turning off the tv. Rather, one of its functions is picking the "right" book, not the Eurocentric book, not the colonists book, not the racist book, not the sexist book, not the capitalists book. When the great European fathers wrote their great philosophical essays, you and I were not the target audience. Actually, we were the "Other." The people to be subjugated during the day while the those in power powdered their nose and talk about equality among white men. Therefore, as a person with subaltern perspective, I am not advocating for either socialism or capitalism. Instead, what I am challenging is the notion that "we," as colonized people, fit within the philosophical confines of theories which are not representative of our distinctiveness in relation to dominant European traditions of thought. Consequently, the whole idea of "waking people up" presumes that people are merely to lazy to pick up a book. The indoctrination of people of color has many manifestations; the media is probably just one. But the mechanics of white hegemony, that is, what moves its wheels goes much deeper than an argument about television's affect on people's sense of self. Yes, television, literature, etc are all tools that the people in power employ to indoctrinate. These are the tools. But what is the machine? Who is operating the machine? As a result, the argument is no that people don't know better. The argument is that people have been conditioned to accept a modified version of capitalism that has a semblance of progress, like the Chinese totalitarian state has a semblance of communism to masquerade totalitarian capitalism. There is a lot of complexity in these issues. Read Antonio Gremsci, Frantz Fanon and Michel Foucault (Discipline and Punish), Angela Davis (Are Prisons Obsolete?)
