I was thinking about the first time I went to central bookings last night for some reason. For those who don't know, central booking is a place where people whom are arrested are taken and processed. Upon leaving, they will either be 'Release on Recognizance' (ROR) or the judge will force a person to pay bail; if they can't pay it within an hour they will be sent to Riker's Island. Then the process of posting bail takes much longer.
Anyways, I was about 16. I got locked up for some random crime. They handcuffed me to the wall like a child until they realized I was 16 years old. At the age of 16, you are tried as an adult in NYC. Anyways, upon being put in the cell, soaking wet from being being mased and having it flushed out of my eyes. I remember the stares at such a young face being incarcerated. A room filled with 20 - 60 year old murderers, weed smokers, crack heads, and drug dealers. I remembered last night because I thought about the acquiescence in their eyes. Like as if though they looked at me like I had so much potential but they couldn't do anything about it. Not to mention the incessant waiting to be moved from one room to the next. It was horrible.
This was an even in my life that made me realize the importance of freedom. Being in a cage, being told what to do, when to do it, how to do it, has not been for me. I realized this a long time ago. In high school, in central bookings, and even in college. Life should not be this recurring episode of people saying, "Do this, do that, or else".
I don't know.

The truth is my dear, it IS a matter of "Do this, do that, or else", however, it's a matter of internalizing such a state of being, when it is particularly initiated outside of yourself (such as in incarceration), and manifesting it as your own decision, therefore transumting any means to deter, into a specified use of progression. Malcom X, for example, had one of his great epiphanies while in prison, no? There will never be a life without rules. As there will never be a life without one's own ability to find their OWN in any environment or apparent restriction.
Benjamin Franklin said, "Laws are like cobwebs. Small flies get trapped in them; while big flies break right through". -Poor Richard's ...
I believe the famed Malcolm X epiphany, that you mention, was a demonstration of Malcolm X transcending his 'small fly' mindset. He got trapped by it he was acting like a 'small fly'. His rebellion against the established order was carried out like a 'small fly'. Once he had the epiphany he didn't play by the same rules as before. He still rebelled against the established order but he carried it out like a 'bigger fly'.
The rulebook changed. He spoke out against laws before, but did it in the wrong way.
I believe that small flies have to figure out how to be comfortable while confined; to acquiesce is necessary to their survival, if they are to play by the same rules. They will succeed a little have a little family, if so inclined, help the world a little, and save a little money for their proverbial 'fade to black' moment. I think there are way less examples of those who walked the well worn path that achieved unparalleled levels of success at what they wanted to do.
I think it just takes 'balls'.
If one's goals are outside of that the acquiescent, institutionally assigned, rule book, I agree that a person will have a set of rules to follow. I just don't think they will be the same set of rules as a person who will walk that similar well worn path. They may be crucified or pre-judged for their decision to make a different choice, but life is about taking a chance to do win on your own terms.
Google: Calvin Ayre, Ghandi, Buddah, John D. Rockefeller (Antitrust + Childhood), T. Boone Pickens (Childhood + Merger).
All of the above, followed rules, but those rules were slightly different from the traditional rules followed by those who carry the fingerprint of the above men in their everyday actions - without knowing it. They found alternative sets of rules that transcended the rules of their neighbors.
Usually, one would say that these men are statistical anomalies. However, I think it takes a certain level of gall to avoid the well worn path, in order to embark on a totally different one. You have to want to kick the suburban barbecue, Corona and meaningless outings; channel one's focus on an ideal and attack that ideal wholeheartedly without a shadow of a doubt.
If someone ties to instill a doubt in walking the lesser worn path cut of that limb and let it die on the cold earth. There is more than one way to Rome.
"Do this, do that, or else" only applies to the people that believe it. I may not be the brightest candle on the birthday cake, but I'm not the dullest either.
who gives a fuck if they're not feeding your family, no? See Don, he's a hustla, do as a hustla say, not as a hustla do. you take away a person's choice you take away their identity. that's how we define where we're at in life. what choice did you make Anonymous? Where are you at in life? There will never be a life without rules, but rules are breakable and bendable. Hence that's why the sub-prime mortgage crisis resulted from a series of scams considered legal loan sharking. Who's getting bailed out? Big Business or the people? So the government comes to the rescue for Bear Stearn but not the family who has lost their home. Choices my dear.
Yea, what she said. LOL.
Don, I dont know, it seems like people rather be opportunity costs. They rather follow the rules of society, than to see where it is flexible. They say things about rules, but not everyone's following them. I cant believe someone would rather follow a device, a scheme, that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. i dont know how people "manifest" those ideals into their lifestyle. What exactly does this person suggest that you conform to? Do this or Do that. LOL. Sounds like a puppeter, I'd rather be Gepetto than Pinnochio(the conformer). You already know Anonymous isn't an 80z baby.
LOL
